Hell Let Loose: Vietnam — Before You Buy

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam launches August 13, 2026 for $39.99 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Before you spend anything, here is everything you need to know — including what changed after the open beta and the two biggest reasons to wait or buy now.

1. It Is a Standalone Game, Not an Expansion

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is a brand-new game built on Unreal Engine 5, not a DLC or expansion of the World War II original. You do not need to own Hell Let Loose (WWII) to play it. If you are new, expect the same hardcore 50v50 teamwork, but with new mechanics — helicopters, tunnels, swimming, climbing and river boats.

2. The Price and Editions

EditionPricePre-order
Standard$39.99$35.99 (10% off)
Deluxe (with uniform packs)$59.99~$53.99 (10% off)

The 10% pre-order discount ends on launch day. Pre-ordering also gives the US Patrol Boat uniform.

3. Full Crossplay at Launch

PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S all play together on the same 50v50 servers from day one. This means a huge player pool and full servers at launch — a major reason the launch window is the best time to start.

4. The Helicopters Are the Hook

Helicopters are fully operational: troop transport, door-gunner firepower, recon and — after the open beta buff — officers can place spawn points from the air. Community coverage consistently says mastering helicopters is the difference-maker for the US Army. If you love piloting, this is the game for you.

5. Asymmetric Warfare: US vs NVA

The US Army has air mobility and firepower; the NVA has tunnels, ambushes and subterranean networks. Every match is a different puzzle — US teams must counter tunnels from the air, NVA teams must counter helicopters with rockets and ambushes. This is the game's defining design bet, and it works.

6. Six Maps, Six Modes, and Room to Grow

Launch content includes six expansive maps (mountain gorges, dense jungle, river deltas) and six game modes — Warfare and Offensive return, Conquest and Domination are new, plus two more modes to be revealed. Future DLC is planned.

7. Performance Was the Beta's Weak Point — It Was Addressed

The open beta drew hundreds of thousands of players but had performance issues: texture pop-in, blurry environments, staggered animations. The developers confirmed fixes for launch: optimized texture loading, animation work, tactical map frame rate improvements and new video options like resolution scaling. Even so, on PC you want at least an RTX 2060 Super / RX 6600 XT.

8. The NVA Tunnel System Was Balanced

Tunnels were widely considered overpowered in the open beta. For launch, tunnels in enemy territory are destroyed, the cooldown is 5 minutes, and travel times increased — without removing their utility. Expect tunnels to be strong but counterable.

9. The Onboarding Was Rebuilt

New players get a revamped tutorial and clearer UI. The steep Hell Let Loose learning curve is still there, but the game now explains itself better — useful if you are coming in fresh.

10. Who Should Wait?

Bottom Line

If you are a Hell Let Loose veteran or a hardcore tactical shooter fan with a decent PC, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is a day-one buy — the 50v50 asymmetric warfare, helicopters and full crossplay make the launch window the best time to jump in. If you are on a weak PC or unsure about the performance fixes, wait for the first week of post-launch reports.
